For text translation, we charge by the word. When the word count can be calculated electronically, we charge for the source language. This way, you know up front what the cost will be. However, for hard copies shipped or scanned and uploaded to us, the words cannot be easily counted. In this situation, we will charge for the target language. However, we will give an estimate of the final cost.
The audio/video translation rate is per minute of the recording. If you have a 45-minute audio or video recording, you will be charged for 45 minutes and will know the total cost before work is started.
Translication involves transcribing speech from a recording and then translating the completed transcript. The transcription is charged per minute of audio, but the text translation is charged by the word, so it won't be known until the transcript is finished. To estimate the number of words in a recording, a good rule of thumb is 150 words per minute. Of course, the speaker is less likely to sustain that rate when speaking for long periods of time. Things are even more complicated when there are multiple speakers who interrupt and speak over each other.
