Microcassette transcription fees aren't automatically higher like with many companies
Many transcription companies automatically charge extra for microcassette and mini-cassette transcription. The reason is that the audio quality of these cassettes is often less than desirable. When recorded properly, however, the speech on the tape can be just as easily understood as from a recording made with a digital recorder. To be honest, people often don't use digital recorders properly so those recordings may not be up to par either. We will examine each cassette individually. If it contains easy-to-understand speech we'll charge accordingly. If it's difficult, only then will we charge the rate for difficult audio.

Tape Repair Services
If your mini or microcassette has been damaged in any way, we might be able to help. Our audio engineers can fix many types of problems from a cut tape to a smashed cassette shell. The audio engineer will fix the tape so that an audio transfer to a digital file format can be preformed. Once digitized, we can transcribe the audio file and make it available for download. If you need the original cassette, we'll ship it back to you.
Very Difficult-To-Understand Speech Recordings
If your tape contains speech that is very difficult to understand, a transcriptionist may not be able to transcribe it any better than you. If the speakers are far from the microphone or are speaking very quietly or are masked with a lot of background noise, you might do well to check out our forensic transcription services. A forensic linguist will examine your recording and let you know if the speech can be decoded using specialized phonetics software along with his knowledge of phonetics and linguistics.
