Oral History Support Services
We provide both audio and language services for oral history projects.
Oral history is all about the past; museum and academic research, professional memoirs, archived interviews, audio recordings of past family members, and other oral history projects are all a part of our society today. What we learn from the words of our predecessors can influence our culture and society now.
The problem is that time isn’t gentle with audio, and older audio formats can create issues with quality and tape integrity. That’s why at Textphonic Communications Inc., we offer a variety of oral history audio services designed specifically for those working on oral history projects – whether it’s a university project, professional oral compilations, or a family memoir.

Oral History Transcription and Translation
If you need text versions of your oral histories, we can provide you with quality transcripts. We have the right professionals to handle Spanish, English, and bilingual recordings.
We don't stop at transcription though. If you have an oral history that was recorded in Spanish and would like it translated to English text, we have many experienced translators up to the task. We also have native Spanish-speaking translators who can translate from English to European or Latin American Spanish.
We can transcribe and translate from a large variety of audio and video formats, both analog and digital. You can securely upload .wav, .mp3, .avi, and many other digital audio and video formats. If you have physical media instead such as old tapes, MiniDiscs, CDs, or DVDs, you can ship them to us via UPS, FedEx, or USPS.
Marginally Intelligible Oral Histories
Sometimes recorded speech may be difficult to understand. A person may be speaking quietly or be too distant from the microphone and other times may have a speech impediment, have a foreign accent, or be speaking too excitedly. The problem may also be overlapping speech from multiple speakers or background noises such as traffic. Our world-class forensic linguists have spent years learning to decode and then transcribe or translate such difficult speech.
