We accept an array of audio and video formats, both analog and digital, including microcassettes, standard cassettes, reels, VHS tapes, wav files, and mp3 files. Digital files can be easily uploaded to our website. Files are sent securely and can be as large as 10GB. Click here to see all the formats accepted.

If you send us recordings on tape there will be an audio transfer fee of $20 per hour of audio. Each hour of audio beyond 10 hours is charged at $10 per hour of audio. We do not transcribe from the original recordings. Transcription adds a lot of wear and tear to the various tape formats. In addition, we try to limit the exposure of the original recordings to people and machines to reduce the chances of damage. Original recordings are handled with the utmost care. The recordings will be transferred to .wav files for transcription and any required enhancement work.

Once the product is ready, it will be available for the client to download from our website. If a CD, DVD, or other copy is desired, we can provide those at a small additional cost.

English Transcription
Spanish Transcription

We provide both Spanish transcription and English transcription services. All transcription is done by native speakers. Many companies charge more for Spanish transcription, some charge quite a bit more. At TransDual Forensics we charge the same for both languages so if you are looking for Spanish transcription at a reasonable cost, you have come to the right place.

Subtitles

Does your video evidence contain speech that is difficult to understand – especially for those sitting in a courtroom and without quality headphones? After transcription or translation, we can add English or Spanish subtitles so your audience can more easily follow along.

You may want the trier of fact or others to view your video evidence even though they may not understand the actual dialog due to marginal intelligibility or foreign language speech. In either situation we can add English or Spanish subtitles so your audience doesn’t miss what is being said as it happens in the video.

Certified Transcripts

All forensic transcripts are certified automatically and at no additional charge. When requested, general transcripts may also be certified for an additional fee. There are two methods of certification that we use. Click here to read about our certification process.

Time stamping is available when requested for an additional $.20 per minute of audio.

General Transcription

General transcription includes any transcription without extensive technical or industry specific jargon. It also includes general business transcription. Common areas of transcription that may fall under the heading “General” are:

Interviews, Oral Histories, Audio Letters, Speeches, Lectures,
Sermons, Phone Calls, Seminars, Meetings & Conferences

Generally, our transcriptions are verbatim or clean verbatim but, if you require something different please contact us to discuss your needs. After completion all of our transcriptions are examined by proofreaders to ensure accuracy. It needs to be remembered though, poor quality audio usually leads to less than perfect verbatim transcriptions. Check our transcription types and rates for more information on this subject.

The finished product is delivered in PDF. If requested we can also produce finished transcriptions in Microsoft Word or many other formats. Hard copies are available at the additional cost of $.40 per page.

Forensic Transcription
Law Enforcement & Criminal Justice Transcription

Difficult to understand recordings are assigned to forensic linguists or speech scientists

Forensic transcription is often assumed to be the transcription of poor quality recordings. This is sometimes the case. However, forensic transcription includes all transcriptions of an evidentiary nature - regardless of audio quality. It includes any recordings that are to be used in an investigation or in court and may involve criminal justice and law enforcement terminology, as well as criminal slang. The recordings are often of interrogations, witness interviews, and from undercover investigations. When presented with recordings that are difficult to understand, we use some of the best forensic audio enhancement software available. Even after enhancement and noise reduction techniques, sometimes it is still difficult to understand what is being said. In this situation, the client has the option of having a forensic linguist or speech scientist examine and transcribe the recording. This is considered type 3L forensic transcription.

We also provide forensic pathology transcription services and are HIPPA compliant. Forensic pathology transcription projects are always assigned to experienced medical transcriptionists with an expertise in forensic medicine.

After completion all of our transcripts are examined by proofreaders to ensure accuracy.

All of our forensic transcriptions are delivered in PDF for certification purposes.

If certification is not needed, we can deliver the product in formats other than PDF, such as Microsoft Word. Hard copies are available at the additional cost of $.40 per page.

Disputed Transcripts and Utterances

Forensic Linguists and speech scientists can also examine and evaluate existing transcripts for errors. They pay close attention to syntactic, phonetic, lexical, and other aspects of an individual’s speech. Additionally, spectrograms, which allow for the visual representation of speech waveforms, may be used to help determine what was said in a recording.
